Deb is an AMP mortgage broker and owner of First Avenue Furnishings. She has a passion for numbers and people, so being a mortgage broker and owner of a store gives her opportunities to meet new people and play with the numbers.

She has been a mortgage broker for about 9 years and the Accredited Mortgage Professional (AMP) designation not only required additional education to obtain, but also requires continued-learning in order to maintain.

First Avenue Furnishings has been in existence for nearly 3 years. It is a boutique furniture and home décor store that focuses on unique items and customer service. They take great pride in their price point and their stress free experience.

Deb holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Saskatchewan (with a focus on chemistry and math) as well as a Chemical Technician Diploma from SIAST. She worked with SaskOil in Regina where she trained to be a Petroleum Technologist. With all of these experiences in hand, Deb returned to school and trained in graphic design which led to a 20-year career in the communications industry.

She has a keen interest in well-run organizations that have a positive impact on those less fortunate. She is married and has a daughter who lives in Regina. She enjoys conversation with friends, attending live music performances, and, both NFL and CFL football.

Deb believes that life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass, it is about learning to dance in the rain.

Deb Murdoch explains why she donates to READ Saskatoon:

"Literacy is important to me because it is a stepping stone to greater self-esteem and confidence. If you have confidence and great self esteem, you have everything."

"I support READ Saskatoon because it is a well-run organization that helps people better themselves. I also like that READ Saskatoon promotes financial literacy."
