Congratulations to Terri Sewel, Co-Owner of SPARK Creations & Bookings who received the Saskatchewan Literacy Award of Merit this year. 

Thank you, your Honour Lieutenant Governor, MLA dignitaries, and special guests.

It is an absolute honor to be here today, recognized for this award. When I was introduced to READ Saskatoon over 10 years ago, I was immediately drawn to their passion and dedication of providing literacy services at no cost to Saskatoon families and adults. I knew I wanted to be a part of the change, and have never looked back.

As the owner of SPARK Creations & Bookings, we have built our business on helping non-profits and giving back. We volunteer, donate funds and event planning services as well as assist in building giving campaigns and create events that generate more awareness to non-profits. We do this because we believe that READ Saskatoon is making a huge impact in our province. We are just happy to be a small part of that success that has been fuelled for almost 40 years.

Surround yourself with positive energy, that is what life is all about. We have brought in other business partners to READ Saskatoon who we knew would be inspired by the work of their team and Executive Director, and be passionate in helping create a vibrant and successful community. Together, we are a small army.

We are here tonight being recognized not for our business tie to literacy, but because literacy is an instrument of empowerment to improve one’s health, one’s income and one’s relationship with the world… we all experience it in our homes as well. I have a 6-year-old who is learning to read. I was going to bring her here tonight, but being from Saskatoon it was a little too late of a night! She is discovering a whole new world. It’s incredible how confidence is tied to new skill development, and especially a valuable tool such as reading. We cannot give up on our children, on the families learning a new skill, on the value of financial literacy. I am proud to be in a community of supporters, and thank you tonight for this honor.
