SASKATOON, SK – KPMG and READ Saskatoon are celebrating a decade of collaboration by renewing their commitment to offer free community learning opportunities to Saskatchewan citizens.

KPMG is proud to continue their support of READ Saskatoon with an additional $40,000 donation. Using their collective experience, skills, and energy to drive positive social change, KPMG’s team members in Saskatoon enable our community to thrive. This includes providing financial and in-kind support to not-for-profit and charitable organizations, including READ Saskatoon. Over the past decade KPMG’s team in Saskatoon has provided over $100,000 of in-kind and financial support to our agency. This includes in-kind bookkeeping assistance, hosting monthly board meetings, attending and sponsoring fundraising events, volunteering, and most importantly, providing adult and financial literacy volunteers to the agency.

“The adults, families, and children we serve have been especially hard-hit over the last two years. Each year, we work with hundreds of individuals who have the courage to ask for help, who want to make change, and our shocking increase in client numbers during the pandemic tells us we have to be ready to help them recover,” said Sheryl Harrow-Yurach, Executive Director of READ Saskatoon. “KPMG’s donation will allow us to get more trained volunteers throughout the province, and more books into homes.

“Community need has become more tangible these last two years. At KPMG we are committed to helping create healthy, vibrant, and successful communities. We know this requires the active participation of each one of us.” said Scott Verity, Office Managing Partner, KPMG in Saskatoon.

The benefits of community literacy programming for adults, families and children are substantial. They include improvements in literacy skills for work, school, early school performance, graduation rates, and employment prospects; alongside a reduction in incidences of delinquency, contact with the justice system, and the need for remedial education services.

“READ Saskatoon is growing to meet the demand throughout the province and we are proud to support their work. We hope this contribution allows them to make an impact in people’s lives,” Verity said.

“We look forward to another great decade as KPMG and READ Saskatoon continue to provide adults and families new opportunities to learn together and grow together,” Harrow-Yurach said.
