READ Saskatoon and TD Bank Group Strive to Fill Saskatchewan Digital Literacy Gap

For Immediate Release,
May 5, 2022

SASKATOON, SK – READ Saskatoon and TD Bank Group are collaborating to increase digital confidence with over 600 digital literacy workshops over the next four years. Through a $160,000 donation granted from TD, READ Saskatoon’s programming is underway.

“COVID taught us three things: clear communication ensures clear understanding, intensive and collaborative supports are needed by all but especially marginalized individuals and families, and digital literacy skills should be added into all our program areas,” said Sheryl Harrow-Yurach Executive Director for READ Saskatoon. “The donation from TD allows us to develop and deliver digital literacy workshops that focus on breaking the digital divide for Saskatchewan’s most marginalized individuals and families, strengthening financial literacy safety and security.”

“TD and READ Saskatoon have proudly worked together for a decade to support the financial literacy skills of people across Saskatchewan,” said Amy Hanen, Associate Vice President, Social Impact (Canada), TD Bank Group. “Through the TD Ready Commitment, our global corporate citizenship platform, we’re thrilled to help READ Saskatoon continue shaping programing that supports participants in building financial and digital acumen. Together, we are enabling members of the local community to build skills that help them fully participate and succeed in a changing world.”

READ Saskatoon’s digital literacy framework and workshops are based on UNESCO’s digital skills critical for jobs and social inclusion. These skills areas include:  the fundamentals of being able to use digital technologies, communicating, handling information and content, transacting, problem-solving, and being safe and legal online.

“We look forward to another great literacy initiative as READ and TD continue to provide adults and families throughout Saskatchewan new opportunities to learn together and grow together,” Harrow-Yurach said.
