This Cree language camp is a four-day summer program founded on the epistemological and pedagogical practices of nehiyawak artists. The focus of this program is to produce authentic language engagement in the context to enhance and share nehiyaw identity, including ways of knowing and being. Teachers Randy Morin and Bill Cook will share terminology in relation to land-based education and skills. Including fishing (catching, fileting and smoking), and tracking and snaring rabbits.
Overall Objectives for a unique experience include:
- Increase the ability to speak and understand Cree over a short time frame.
- Build a Cree vocabulary to enhance and strengthen partnerships with Indigenous and non-Indigenous alike.
- Understand the meaning behind the words to learn about the Cree worldview
- To connect to the land and to learn from a place.
Cost for the six day language experience is $350 and anyone aged 12 and over is $250. There is also a student rate of $250.
If you are bringing children, bring them snacks and their own little meals. The camp also provides water, juice, fruit, and bars.
Let's speak Cree!
