Empower Your Finances: A Strengths-Based Budgeting Guide

Since 1979 Foundations Learning & Skill Saskatchewan has provided adult tutoring services with the help of trained volunteers and community partners. Throughout the decades we have expanded to offer adult, family, children’s, and financial literacy programs, as well as literacy facilitator trainings and resources.

Today, we are proud to present our new financial literacy resource, Empower Your Finances: A Strengths-Based Budgeting Guide.

Empower Your Finances: A Strengths-Based Budgeting Guide is a unique budget resource that draws on Foundations’ 13 years of experience facilitating money management workshops to individuals throughout the province. It is a plain language resource for anyone who is looking for budgeting templates, and it is an excellent resource for Foundations’ Financial Literacy Trained Facilitators as they work with clients through the Budgeting module and can be used on its own in money management groups or financial coaching contexts.

The portable, durable, coil-bound book holds templates for three months of money tracking. Recipients will also find prompts to encourage reflection on money habits and behaviours, and even some words of encouragement from past workshop participants.

“We designed the Budgeting Guide as a starting point for anyone interested in taking the first few steps into getting control of their finances,” explained Foundations’ Financial Literacy Coordinator Lindy Carter. “Foundations participants can also access the content through our Budgeting Workshop or Financial Coaching Program. We are grateful to the Saskatoon Community Foundation for their support of this money management resource”.

Established in 1970 by a group of Saskatoon people who wanted to make their community a better place, the Saskatoon Community Foundation makes strategic grants to a wide range of charities in Saskatoon to enhance the quality of life in our community, and bringing this resource to life is no exception.

“Foundations has been a trusted partner for many years in providing programs that support improved financial literacy in the community,” says Saskatoon Community Foundation’s CEO Carm Di Santo Michalenko, “Saskatoon Community Foundation’s vision is a vibrant community where everyone belongs, and partners like Foundations’ skill-building programs help give every citizen of Saskatoon that opportunity.”
