Mike and Rhonda Stensrud support READ Saskatoon Learn and Grow Campaign with a $100,000 donation

RELEASE DATE September 8, 2021

Saskatoon, September 8, 2021 – Long-time supporters of literacy, Mike and Rhonda Stensrud, surprised READ Saskatoon with $100,000 donation to their Learn and Grow Campaign.

“One-third of adults struggle with literacy, and it shouldn’t be surprising that many are employees,” said Mike Stensrud. “Literacy programs that strive to improve workers’ literacy skills create a more productive workforce and a more competitive economy. Increasing literacy skills provides a foundation for lifelong learning as people and businesses grow together. That’s why we support READ Saskatoon. They provide opportunities for individuals to be successful at home, in the community, and at work.”

READ Saskatoon plans to raise $2,000,000 this year in a major giving campaign. The funds will help individuals and families achieve their literacy goals.

“Since 1979, READ Saskatoon has provided free adult tutoring services with the help of trained volunteers and community partners. Our services have significantly broadened to meet the ever-changing learning needs of our community,” says Jarvis Pelletier, Board of Directors Chair for READ Saskatoon. “Today, with the commitment of hundreds of volunteers, donors, and corporate partners we offer free adult, family, and financial literacy programs, as well as literacy facilitator training and resources.”

Over the next four years READ Saskatoon will:

  • Work with 20,000 people
  • Double their trained volunteers from 165 to 330; and,
  • Train 200 facilitators throughout Saskatchewan, supporting them to deliver READ Saskatoon’s children’s, family, and financial literacy programs in their communities.

“Community literacy programs are good for adults, good for children, good for our economy, and good for our city. READ Saskatoon’s work and initiative reimagines the way we learn and grow together. Strong literacy programs are central to our city’s success and create centres of support and belonging for our citizens,” said Mike and Rhonda Stensrud. “We encourage others to consider supporting READ Saskatoon.”
