READ Saskatoon Reveals the 2021 Community Builder Award Winner

RELEASE DATE August 27, 2021

Saskatoon, August 27, 2021 – On Monday, August 30, at the READ Saskatoon Golf Tournament for Literacy, Conexus Credit Union will be presented with the Kinsmen Club of Saskatoon’s Community Builder Award. The award honours local partnerships that are working to promote and support literacy in our city and province.

“Strong partnerships between community organizations and businesses make our city a great place to live and work,” said Sheryl Harrow-Yurach, Executive Director for READ Saskatoon. “There is no greater example of this than the partnership between READ Saskatoon and Conexus Credit Union. Conexus provides the support we need to take our financial literacy programming and training throughout the province. With their support and over the last three years we delivered Financial Literacy Programs to 949 participants, 920 of which completed at least 3 of 6 workshops. We also trained 69 financial literacy facilitators from 20 communities. These facilitators in turn provided financial literacy workshops to 1,649 people. To date we have trained and certified 116 facilitators representing 19 communities throughout Saskatchewan. Conexus is working with us to ensure community literacy programs are accessible to everyone.”

“Financial literacy is a critical life skill and is something we’re actively bringing awareness to in the community especially now as people financially recover from the pandemic,” says Norman Duret, Saskatoon Branch Manager, Conexus Credit Union. “We’re proud to partner with community partners such as READ who help us deliver on our purpose of improving the financial well-being of our members and communities. What READ has accomplished in just three years is tremendous and we’re excited to work along- side our community partner to continue providing financial literacy across our province.

Beyond assisting with financial support to READ Saskatoon, Conexus staff contribute hundreds of hours as volunteers to financial literacy programming. “Conexus has demonstrated that our community is stronger when companies, individuals and community organizations work together to support our citizen’s personal, educational, work goals” said Harrow-Yurach.

The Community Builder Award will be presented at READ Saskatoon’s annual PGI Golf Tournament for Literacy on Monday, August 30th at Saskatoon Golf and Country Club.
